Undersuits

We keep a range of insulation suitable for most caving regions (except the very, very warm), and most constitutions. Experience suggests that a close fitting and quick draining layer works well for most people. As a guide, it is also good to avoid undue sweating; so if you find yourself drenched and cold on most of your trips, you might - paradoxically - be better off wearing a bit less. Meander Powerstretch Singlet
£33.00
:

Meander Powerstretch Singlet

Vest made of Polartec Powerstretch, a very flexible and warm technical fabric. A very useful piece of clothing for both cold caves and also general surface work, especially on expeditions. This vest-cut garment is very fast-wicking and quick draining, allowing a caver to increase comfort on slow moving trips, or as a general heat-upgrade in colder caves or as part of bivouac kit. Particularly effective worn next to the skin, but may be layered (most effectively with other technical fabrics). Only available in black. Or very very dark grey (sorry, that was a Batman joke. It IS only available in black).
MTDE Butron

MTDE Butron

Lightweight, very flexible and breathable undersuit for warm or high energy trips, or for layering. Very quick draining, and also quick drying if one is living in one set of clothing for long periods i.e. camping underground. Double material at knees and elbows (needs unpicking and restitching to put padding in). Wrap around zip to make life easier on long trips or when camping. Hood of same material in collar, zipped pocket on chest. Sizes XS - XXL, colour navy blue.
Aventure Verticale British Arphidia
£85.20
:

Aventure Verticale British Arphidia

Very comfortable light to medium - weight one piece undersuit in fast draining, and very stretchy, comfortable material; lighter than, but similar to Powerstretch in look and feel. Generally they are meant to be worn close for maximum warmth. The flexibility is an advantage both for general ease of caving, and for reducing exertion (you're not fighting your clothing when you move). Also the close fit reducing chilling through allowing cold air into the system, while the relatively low bulk of the material facilitates fast draining. These models (made especially by AV for us) for British caving, now have a shorter crotch-to-neck closure, which allows for a thicker and more heavy duty zip to be used. Double material pocket on knees, and a high collar for general snugness. It is easy to fit extra padding into the double fabric on the knees; an excellent feature which may help prolong a caver's career! Navy blue, sizes XS - XXL - remember, sizes are generally small and there is initial...
Aventure Verticale Illamina (Powerstretch)
£96.00
:

Aventure Verticale Illamina (Powerstretch)

A warm, flexible and quick draining undersuit in a very technical fabric. Cut for a close fit, which is possible due to the four way stretch, the Illamina has a high and surprisingly warm collar (we cannot work out if it is Polartec 200 fleece or doubled Powerstretch; either way, it is very cosy). There are pockets for knee pads, as with the Arphidia, which are useful for those with delicate / battered knees, or those in very vertical caves where kneepads are a nuisance. The medium weight two way front zip is offset slightly for comfort, to avoid the delicate throat area. A fairly simple suit - no hoods or pockets - but effective due to the excellent material, as long as you don't overheat easily.
MTDE Invernal
£96.00
:

MTDE Invernal

Warm, flexible, and hard wearing undersuit for cold or low energy trips (or cavers). High snuggle factor thick, stretchy fleece, comes with chest plus two handwarmer pockets, plus lightweight hood in collar. Probably suitable for diving and winter mountaineering as well as caving; great build quality. Wrap around zip for toilet breaks, too. Sizes XS - XXL, colour red with black knee and elbow reinforcement.
Warmbac Neofleece
£96.00
:

Warmbac Neofleece

A versatile caving undersuit suit in 3mm neoprene plus warmbac fleece material. Basically, a thin wetsuit to just above the knee and elbow joints, with fleece lower arms and legs. Knees and elbows in double fleece material (and sewn in neoprene pads) for durability and extra protection, heavy duty front zip fastening. Suitable for wet trips and those who feel the cold in water. The neofleece is specifically designed for use with an oversuit. Has been successfully used for the Long Round trip, and - very brief - cave dives to c. 6m
Starter Combination Pack

Starter Combination Pack

Starter Combination Pack: Warmbac Centre oversuit and AV Arphidia undersuit. A durable, value for money set that should suit most UK based cavers, at least initially; a heavy duty shell that is still SRT friendly, combined with a warm, flexible and quick draining insulating layer. The extra padding potential in the knees of the Arphidia also helps protect the joints for those starting caving, or very keen on crawling (for which the Warmbac is a good choice of oversuit, in any case!)
