Caving Gear Image

Rigging and Aid Climbing

Primarily the kit to place bolts with, and the kit required to reach the places where you want to place bolts! There are no drills on here, but that’s because everyone has their own specific needs and preferences; this section does have the hammers and drivers for more caver-specific uses that won’t be found in good hardware outlets. For the bolts and hangers that you’ll be placing, the caver specific items (again, not the cheap options available in hardwares) are in their own section.

Raumer M8 Bolt Driver
£31.80

Raumer M8 Bolt Driver

M8 Raumer Stroker, driver for M8 bolts. Padded, protective and comfortable tool for hand driving the 8mm self drill anchor. Durable but soft grip handle to facilitate turning the driver while placing the bolt. Also the rubber flange protects the hand from miss- strikes! Replaceable tip may be purchased separately if the thread strips. Weight 280g
Petzl Rocpec
£45.00

Petzl Rocpec

Light and compact bolt driver, whose primary use to to provide the option of placing through bolts or similar, by hand. Accepts SDS bits, of various sizes, which may be fitted and removed without the use of specialist tools. While the quickest hand-placed caving anchor probably remains the ‘Spit’, if you are on a long rigging trip and the drill batteries have less power than anticipated, having the Rocpec as a backup might prove a happy choice! Weight 198g, excluding bit.
Raumer Action hammer
£45.00

Raumer Action hammer

Well made, effective hammer traditionally used in placing M8 and similar bolts. Wrist loop and lanyard hole to prevent dropping, rubber high - grip handle for comfort and shock absorption, plus a decent socket in the end to allow plate hanger 8mm bolts to be screwed in. Has a reasonably heavy head, so can work for light rock demolition.
Kong Speleagle
£48.00

Kong Speleagle

You never thought that a hammer could be sexy! Tough, compact and well belanced, the Speleagle has a 13mm nut spanner at the base, as well as a 17mm spanner in the head. The lighter head makes it particularly suitable where a heavier hammer is not required, such as driving through bolts, and especially in aid climbing where work may be carried out at full stretch. Pick end is well suited for gardening rock and general light scraping and destruction. Stainless steel body and rubber handle, tape safety loop against dropping by accident. Weight 571g
Petzl Coeur Pulse 8mm
£47.00

Petzl Coeur Pulse 8mm

Temporary 8mm diameter anchor, combining the capacious Coeur hanger plate (alloy) with a stainless quick-place 8mm bolt. Note that this is not a self-drilling anchor! this is a piece of equipment most useful where reducing bulk and weight are at a premium, and where large amounts of aid climbing are expected. Classic occasions would be remote expeditions where the walk-in is long, or flights to the area are necessary (and cheap / nasty through bolts cannot be obtained locally); also for climbing or reconnaissance trips beyond sumps where buoyancy must be managed carefully. Drill requirements are the same as for placing classic M8 through bolts, and the Coeur Pulse teams well with the Raumer M8XL through bolt for intermediate belays and standing rigging. Given unit weight 45g. Pull-out strength *in concrete* 12 kN. Required drilling depth 5cm.
