Bestard Canyon Guide

£147.00

We have been testing these over a few months, and have talked to instructors who have used them for work, and we’ve taken the plunge!

A very technical boot made for wet and rocky places, but it seems to have a similar performance to a B1 alpine boot. There is a lot of technical information available on the Bestard website, which we summarise here:

Made in Spain
Eight lace attachments (ladder climbers NB, the top attachments are hooks)
Upper is rubber and treated H2O Microtech Cordura
Sole is Vibram Best Idrogrip
Drain holes and built-in gaiter
Lightweight but reasonably protective (around 1.2kg for size 8)
Rubber rand protects toe, but not a hard toe box.
Comes with insoles, of course.

Our opinion is that these are remarkably comfortable and definitely good for climbing. Their obvious place in the kit store of a *wealthy!* caver is for expeditions where foot comfort is vital - lots of walking, hot environments; also trips where good foot placements are most helpful - very narrow, or climbing oriented venues; and lastly on expeditions where weight is an issue, and one set of boots has to do everything.

We suspect that caves with lots of gritty crawling will not play to these boots strengths! Cavers who have the Bestards will probably keep a pair of rubber boots for these (my Etches are still running for drysuit diving and carrying cylinders in Cwm Dwr for example)
