Fenix E35 (1000 lumens)
Fenix E35 LED torch, takes one Lithium 18650 battery, or two Lithium CR123 batteries. Up to 1000 lumens output in 'burst' mode. Of our range of Fenix products this is the one we see as an aven-scoping tool, or as a full backup for multi-day expeditionary caving if the caver is happy with a helmet side-mount. Conveniently it takes the same battery as the HL55. It is pretty compact.
With four settings, and a brighter 'burst' setting, this seems to be a nice balance between size and performance at a good price for those who value lightness and brightness above long duration or multiple beam settings - ideal for digging and prospecting.
The brightness / duration levels are: 450 lumens for 4 hours; 150 lumens for 11.5 hours; 50 lumens for 42 hours; and 8 lumens for 150 hours. Burst light gives around 1000 lumens.
The E35 uses a dual switch system, which is simple and durable. It has a regulated output and polarity protection. It also has a strobe feature.
Weight is 75g without the battery, the HL55 is c.12.5 long and c.2.5cm wide; so it really should not be very noticeable to wear as a backup. It is also waterproof to 2m depth (IPX 8 rating), is made of alloy for abrasion resistance, and uses a Cree XM - L2 U2 LED for those to whom this detail means something; in this case, it emits a less blue, more neutral light.
