How to choose your braking krab

One of our customers asked Tony recently which of the braking krabs we sell he recommended to use with a Petzl Stop. We thought his reply might be useful to other people:

If your weight is medium to heavy, the Raumer Handy. If your weight is light, *not* the Raumer Handy.

If light or medium weight and not wealthy, the Petzl Steel Djinn.

If light or medium weight and want to treat yourself, the Petzl Freino Z Triact.

If you consistently use ropes of 8mm or below, probably the Handy, whatever you weigh!

The query was about the Petzl Stop, but the same principles apply for other descenders, EXCEPT if you have a pre-2019 Stop or Simple. While we’re on the subject, there are three types of Freino on our website. The plain Freino, i.e. NOT the Freino Z, is the one which works with pre-2019 descenders (and everything else). The Freino Z, whether Twistlock or Triact, will work ONLY with a modern Simple or Stop (post 2019).
